dvd

Sometimes, when the boredom gets completely out of hand, we hire a film on DVD from a local video store.

They have a special offer - when you hire one of the latest films, you can also hire an older film for free. Clever little marketing ploy. Nobody ever rents only one DVD, thinking they are getting something free, not realising that the rental for the second DVD is already included in the price of the first. TINSTAAFL.

The old DVDs hardly ever functions in Mother's DVD player. They skip and stick something terrible.

But when we put the DVD in one of our computers, it works without a problem.

Is Mother's DVD player, like some people I intimately know, too sensitive to function properly? Does it stick and skip because it cannot see past the hairline scratches on the surface?
