waxing lyrical

It is a glorious Autumn day here today.

I was able to sleep until 10:00am, even though I got up at 6 o'clock to feed famished cats and let bloated dogs out for their morning constitutional. At that time it was still cold and the sun was barely out. I was very glad to get back into the warm bed next to The One who was still fast asleep, as he still is.

As soon as I woke up, I noticed that the sunlight looked different. It wasn't the hot white summer sun, nor the bleak winter one. It had a golden quality. It bathed everything in a warm glow. The cats felt it, too. They both sat on the fridge in the wonderful sunlight and looked, and behaved, like absolute angels.

It is a public holiday (Family Day) and the beginning of a weeklong holiday for us. Wondrous.

Anyway, I decided that this was the perfect day for waxing lyrical. To that effect, I will quote some of my favourite lyrics.

From Northern Girls by Belleruche:

I thought that we made it clear
I was never to change my mind
You've become so precious dear
But you've got to leave this behind

From The Way to Go by Thieve, featuring Die Heuwels Fantasties:

No one ever told me I'd a way to go
At the moment I can say I'm doing better than ever

I'm alive, I'm alive
I'm ready, going steady
I'm alive, I'm alive
I'm ready to run

From Cassandra by ABBA:

I watched her ship leaving harbour at sunrise
Sails almost slack in the cool morning rain
She stood on deck, just a tiny figure
Rigid and restrained
Blue eys filled with pain

From Safe as Houses by Aking:

I like looking at the sky
As the wind plays through
The skirts of the trees
The silence knows
How afraid we are of it

From Shame by Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow:

What a shame we never listened
I told you through the television
And all that went away was the price we paid
People spend a lifetime this way
Oh what a shame

From Take On Me by Anni B Sweet:

Talking away
I don't know what I'm to say
I'll say it anyway
Today 's another day to find you
Shying away
I'll be coming for you love, OK

What an eclectic bunch of music. I'm sure there are a couple of mondegreens in there.
